As a valued System Architect®
customer, we want to let you know that a new
version of System Architect (SA) has been
commercially released. We continue to drive
improvements to the product within themed areas
to enable you to build and maintain a strategic,
value-driven enterprise architecture.
System Architect 2025 – Update
2 – Version 11.4.12.2
– provides the following
enhancements:
Improved CSV Import
– The CSV Import feature has been enhanced to
intelligently digest spreadsheets where properties
and property values do not align with the Framework
metamodel and constraints in SA. CSV import now
automatically:
• |
Places quotes around items as they are imported from
a spreadsheet if they have embedded spaces in their
name. |
• |
Matches spreadsheet column names to properties in SA
that have been renamed (via the Label
command). Previously you had to rename the
spreadsheet column name to match the original
property name in SA. |
• |
Accommodates spreadsheet items that are
ill-formed, as follows: |
○ |
If a column in the spreadsheet is being mapped into
a property that is a list of definitions, the value
None is translated to "". |
○ |
If a column in the spreadsheet is being mapped into
a property that is a DATE field, the value of NA or
N/A is translated to "". |
○ |
If a column in the spreadsheet is being mapped into
a property that is a BOOLEAN, the value of Y/N
or Yes/No is translated to T/F. |
• |
Accommodates columns that map into a property that
is a list of different definition types
(heterogeneous list). SA will by default
import to the first reference definition type, which
can be overridden by the user specifying a qualifier
for the first value in the column, describing what
definition they want everything mapped into. The
default is overridden by users putting a qualifier
before specific items in cells. |
• |
Produces a more verbose import report as an option.
Customizable Metamodel
– Enhancements to SA's famed customizable
metamodel include these new commands and
behavior:
• |
Sort_Representations:
Allows sorting of items in a submenu for a symbol
type. |
• |
FROMTEXT and TOTEXT:
Support for specification of source and target role
text for Line symbols in SA and SA XT. |
• |
FROMTEXTSCR and
TOTEXTSCR: Source and
target role text as implemented in UML 2.5 and SysML
1.6 are now supported in SA XT. |
• |
Allow restricted choices list for
HeterogeneousListOf or HeterogeneousOneOf using OF
DEFINITION REFERENCED IN. |
SA Usability – The
following SA features have been added:
• |
Splitting Lines Covered by Node
Symbol: If you place a node symbol on a
relationship line, a new option is available in the Format menu to
automatically split the line so that it connects as input and output
from the line. |
• |
File deletion in File Manager now asks for confirmation first. |
Access Control – Property Level
Access Control (PLAC) – introduced with SA 11.4.12
– has been enhanced as follows:
• |
Property permissions have been expanded to include read-only
permissions for the Name of definitions or diagrams. When set in the
Catalog Manager, they will be honored in the Advanced Editor dialog,
SA XT and Properties View. |
SA XT Diagramming – Drawing diagrams
in a browser with SA XT is enhanced as follows:
• |
Remove/Purge options are now presented when deleting symbol
nodes, and representationally consistent implicit and explicit
lines, similar to those in SA client. |
• |
Support for various property initialization scenarios supported by
SA: |
○ |
Key definition properties – so creation and editing of keyed
definitions from the SA XT Diagrammer is now supported. |
○ |
Inheritance of symbol property and definition property values from
diagram properties – for example, when symbols drawn on a
diagram inherit the model or package value of the diagram. |
○ |
Required symbol properties with no underlying definition property.
○ |
Required symbol properties with underlying definition property
initialized from the symbol property. |
• |
An option to select all other symbols of a selected symbol's
type. |
• |
SA XT Diagrammer's status bar now updates as you reposition or
resize node symbols so that you can refer to the precise position
and size. |
• |
An edit page is presented when editing Note symbols to allow for
entry of multi-line text and to cover cases where additional
properties may have been added to the symbol. |
• |
An edit page is presented when editing Text symbols to allow for
entry of multi-line text. |
• |
Better handling of creation or location of definitions, keyed or
not, from the SA XT Diagrammer. When you request to edit a
definition where the underlying definition has been removed since
the SA XT Diagrammer was opened or refreshed, it will be found if it
had been replaced, or recreated if it is missing. |
SA XT Dashboards – Dashboards in SA
XT are enhanced as follows:
• |
Report widgets now support subreports:
Report widgets using a query that includes subreports can now be
displayed properly using a Nested Table style output. |
• |
Widgets can be updated if Query
changes: A new option "Update report
output on query changes" allows query settings to be changed on
Report, Scorecard, and Pivot Table widgets after their creation.
SA XT Reporting – The Query Builder
in SA XT is enhanced as follows:
• |
Overwrite option on Save Query –
When saving a query, there is now an option to overwrite an existing
query. |

• |
New customization options have been added for the SA XT navigation
bar to include those links previously found on the sidebar of the SA
XT homepage. |
• |
There is now an option to add a text header in a navigation dropdown
menu with new keywords NavCatalogCollection and NavDropdownHeader.
